This delightful inn is situated in one of the oldest and most beautiful
city farmhouses in the Netherlands. Today, Herberg De Gouden Leeuw
(Golden Lion Inn) is offering superb hospitality on these very same
premises, which originally consisted of three separate buildings. The
oldest section, the former mayor’s residence, dates from 1575 and is now
being used as a Heerenkamer. Also located in the former mayor’s quarters
is the Gelagkamer, whose authentic open fireplace with an original tile
picture is a vivid reminder of the olden days. The second building,’t
Pietshuus, used to be a horse mill and was built around 1750. The unique
features of this structure include the so-called cow’s eyes, i.e.
authentic oval windows. The third building, the former Deel (barn and
threshing floor), dates from 1650.

Accommodations and prices

Surroundings
With only 150 residents, Bronkhorst is the smallest city in the
Netherlands. It has been magnificently restored and there is hardly a
building that couldn’t be considered a cultural heritage site. Situated
opposite the inn is the Slotkapel, the castle’s chapel, dating from
1345, and next to it the Charles Dickens Museum. The Hanseatic city of
Zutphen, with its lovely medieval centre, is only a stone’s throw away.
And for all of those who just can’t get enough culture, Het Loo Palace
and the Kröller-Müller Museum are within easy reach. And with the close
proximity to the IJssel River, there is plenty to do for nature lovers.
For instance, there are numerous scenic walking and cycling trails in
the immediate vicinity, and Veluwe National Park starts virtually in
Bronkhorst’s backyard.
